History of Erumeli

According to tradition, Erumeli is associated with the mythological battle between Lord Ayyappa and the demon Mahishi. After defeating Mahishi, Lord Ayyappa is believed to have rested at Erumeli, marking the town as a sacred starting point for the pilgrimage.
The famous Pettathullal ritual, symbolizing joy and victory, originated here and continues to be performed by pilgrims before they begin their journey through the forests to Sabarimala.
