Erumeli: The famous Pettathullal Festival, a unique and vibrant ritual deeply associated with Lord Ayyappa, was celebrated with great devotion in Erumeli as part of the Mandala–Makaravilakku pilgrimage season. Thousands of devotees gathered in the town to witness and participate in the traditional ritual, which marks the divine victory of Lord Ayyappa over the demoness Mahishi.
Devotees, with their faces painted in vivid colors, performed energetic ritualistic dances while chanting devotional hymns. The streets of Erumeli came alive with spiritual fervor as pilgrims from various parts of the country joined the celebrations. The ritual, believed to symbolize joy, victory, and devotion, remains exclusive to Erumeli and holds immense spiritual significance.
Local authorities and temple committees made arrangements to manage the large crowds and ensure the smooth conduct of the festival. The Pettathullal celebration once again highlighted Erumeli’s importance as a key spiritual center in the Sabarimala pilgrimage tradition, reinforcing its message of faith, unity, and cultural heritage.
